Extra foam, please…
Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005From time to time, I like to escape reality by going to the nearest coffee shop [provided they have couches and Wi-Fi], stuff headphones into my ears, and bury myself in the soft, welcoming glow of the internet. One of the things that I enjoy about this is that the crowd tends to be more casual, liberal, etc. I just like being surrounded by such a thing - my element, per se.
Now, most of the time [at the coffee shop] I’m in the presence of thinkers… the kind that pride themselves on seeing things from all angles, having good taste in music and movies, etc. This image of social-perfection was shattered when I overheard a conversation about a couple movies - a two-parter, in fact. They talked of drama, fantastic acting, and the serious, well-thought-out plot. Ever the fan-o-cinema, I perked up. Waiting eagerly for either Siskel or Ebert to drop the title of the movie, I was jolted in a way similar to that of being woken up by a hobo having an argument with a bicycle. They were talking about Fast and The Furious and it’s sequel, 2 Ghey 2 Gheyious.
I was in awe. They seemed wise, well-read, and deep [like a zebra-fart]. How did this happen? How did my beloved coffee-house brethren stoop to such a level? What’s next? “I found that Daredevil had an underlying message of hope and sacrifice…” I just don’t get it. I’m changing coffee shops…seriously.
